FAQ

Chat history disappeared toggle
Your chat history is saved in the app on your device. For this reason, you will not be able to transfer or restore your chat history in any of the following cases:
• You deleted your chat history.
• You uninstalled then reinstalled the LINE app (including restoring the app from backup).
• Your device has changed (e.g. you changed devices; you repaired your device).

Please make sure to back up any important chats in the future. For information about backing up and restoring your chat history, please see this Help article.

Problems sending or receiving messages toggle
If you are having problems sending or receiving messages, please try the following steps.

1. Update your LINE app from the URL below.
http://line.me/update
2. Restart your device.
3. Go back to the list of chats, then open the chat you are having problems with again.

Please note that sometimes it may take a while for a chat message to show up after you receive the notification.

App crashes toggle
If the app crashes when you are in a chat, there may not be enough memory on your device. Please try the troubleshooting tips listed below.

• Close all running apps.
• Restart the LINE app.
• Restart your device.
• Ensure that you have more than 2 GB of free space on your device.
• Clear the LINE app's cache. (See here for information on how to do so.)

I received a chat message saying "Start chatting with your new friend now!" toggle
With LINE, chat rooms are automatically created for recently added friends. "Start chatting with your new friend now!" is always the first message in these chats.

Also, if you or your friend turn the "Allow others to add me" setting ON, your chat room may be recreated and appear at the top of your chat list.

If a chat with a friend you haven't messaged recently appears at the top of your chats, it may be because that friend turned their "Allow others to add me" setting ON.

Rest assured that this message does not mean an account is being impersonated or has been stolen.

Editing and deleting Notes toggle
To edit or delete a post, please follow the steps below.

To edit/delete Notes:  
1. Tap the Note you want to edit or delete.
2. Tap the options icon at the top right of the post.
3. Select either Edit or Delete

Deleting albums toggle
To delete an album: 
1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen > Albums.
2. Tap "..." at the bottom right of the album you want to delete, or tap the album > the options icon at the top right of the screen.
3. Tap Delete album > Delete.

To delete photos in an album:
1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen > Albums.
2. Tap the album > the options icon at the top right of the screen > Select photos.
3. Select the photos you want to delete, then tap the trash can icon at the bottom left of the screen > Delete.
Note: If you want to select all of the photos, tap Select all.

Please keep in mind that once an album or photo is deleted, it cannot be restored.

Do I need to worry about other people being able to see my chats? toggle

We respect your privacy above all else, and your sent/received messages and other information are treated with the highest level of security. LINE has established strict internal rules to ensure that your messages are protected.

 

Nothing you send or receive can be viewed by LINE or any third parties not participating in a chat.

Problems with images, videos, and audio messages toggle
It may take some times to send, receive, and display images, videos, and audio messages. Images are only stored on our servers for a certain period of time, after which they can no longer be received. We are unable to provide details about how long images are stored.

By tapping the thumbnail received in a chat, you can save the image in your LINE app. To save it in the default gallery app on your device, please tap Save after opening the image.

Images saved in the LINE app will become unavailable if you delete the app's cache using a cache clearing app.

For problems with images, videos, and audio messages, please try the following.

1. Close all running apps.
2. Restart your device.
3. Update your LINE app from the URL below.

4. Update your OS.
5. Delete any unneeded apps and data on your device.

Sharing messages, photos, and videos in chat rooms with friends toggle
To share messages, photos, or videos to friends or groups:
1. Tap the chat room with the message, photo, or video you want to share.
2. Tap and hold the message, photo, or video, then tap Share > Share.
Note: You can send multiple contents at the same time.
3. Select a recipient and tap Share, or choose an option at the bottom of the share screen.

You can send a message together with the content if you're sharing it with a friend or group. Just enter your message in the text box at the bottom of the screen, then tap Share.

You can also share a single photo/video that was sent in a chat (or a group of multiple photos that were sent together) by tapping the Share with icon next to it.

Adding photos to albums toggle
To add photos to an album: 
1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen > Albums.
2. At the bottom right of an album, tap "..." > Add photos.
3. Select the photos you want to add, then tap Next > Add.

You can also add photos sent in a chat room to albums. To do so:
1. Tap and hold a photo in a chat, then tap Save to album > Save.
2. Choose the album you want to save the photo in, then tap Add.

Marking all unread messages as read toggle
Please follow the steps below to mark all unread messages in a chat room as read.

To mark a specific chat as read:
1. Tap Chats.
2. Tap and hold the chat in which you want to mark all unread messages as read.
3. Tap Mark as read.

To mark all chats as read:
1. Tap Chats.
2. Tap the options icon at the top right > Mark all as read.
3. Tap Mark as read.

Sending voice messages toggle
The voice message feature lets you record and send audio to friends. You can send voice messages with the following steps.

1. Tap Chats.
2. Tap the name of the friend or group.
3. Tap and hold the microphone icon on the right side of the message input box.
4. Record your message while holding the microphone icon.
5. When you have finished recording, remove your finger from the microphone icon to send your message. 
Note: If asked, please allow voice recording or microphone access permission, or turn your microphone ON from your settings.

Creating slideshows or GIFs with your photos and sending them in chats toggle
You can use multiple photos and a variety of effects to make slideshows or GIF animations and send them in chats.

The following customization options are available:
• Trim photos or add music, filters, and other effects when making slideshows.
• Change the size and playback speed for GIFs.

To make a slideshow or GIF and send it in a chat room: 
1. Tap the photo icon next to the text box, then tap the photo list icon at the bottom right of the screen.
2. Select two or more photos.
Note: The photos you select will appear at the bottom of the screen in the order they were selected. You can reorder them by tapping and holding them, then dragging them to the order of your choice.
3. Tap the slideshow or GIF icon. 
4. Edit the content any way you like, then tap the paper airplane icon to send it.

Sending your location via Chat toggle
To send your location via Chat:
1. Tap "+" next to the message input box, then tap Location.
2. Select your location and tap Share location.

If you can't find the location you want to send, you can search for its name or address in the search field on the location selection screen.

Editing photos and videos before you send them toggle
To edit a photo or video before sending it: 
1. Tap the photo icon next to the text box.
2. Tap the photo or video you want to edit.
3. Edit the photo or video any way you like and tap the paper airplane icon to send it.

You can use the following tools on the editing screen.

Filters (the three-ringed icon)
Choose from a variety of filters to alter the mood of your photos and videos.

Crop (the square icon)
For photos, tap the crop icon to trim them and focus on a certain area. For videos, tap the scissors icon to trim the part of the video you want to send.

Doodle (the pen icon)
Draw or write on your photos using pens of various colors/thicknesses or by selecting shapes.

Pixelate & blur (the pixelate icon)  
You can pixelate or blur photos by tapping the relevant icons.  

Text (the "T" icon)
Add text to photos and videos in the color and style of your choice.

Stickers
Add emoji, the current date and time, geotags, and stickers to your photos and videos.
Note: You can add official stickers from LINE and BT21, as well as creator, custom, and message stickers.

Chatting while making video calls or playing videos/LINE MUSIC songs toggle
To chat while watching videos (for Android OS version 8.0 and later):
1. Tap a video that was shared in a chat.
2. Tap the picture-in-picture icon at the top right of the screen.
Note:
- The first time you use this feature, you'll need to turn ON Allow permission.
- This feature does not support YouTube videos shared in chats.

To chat during a video call/live video:
1. At the top of a chat, tap the call icon > Video call or Live.
2. Tap the picture-in-picture icon at the top of the screen.

Move the floating window wherever you like, and tap the enlarge icon to make it full-screen again.

To chat while listening to LINE MUSIC songs:
Tap the play button on a LINE MUSIC song that was shared in a chat.

Replying to specific chat messages toggle
To reply to a specific chat message: 
1. Tap and hold or swipe left on the message you want to reply to.
Note: If you tap and hold the message, tap Reply.
2. Enter text/emoji or choose a sticker, then send your message.
Note: The steps above can only be used to reply to text, stickers, emoji, photos, or videos.

The "Swipe messages to reply" feature can be turned ON or OFF on Android devices.

To configure your settings: 
1. Tap the Home/Friends or More tab > Settings > Chats.
2. Turn Swipe messages to reply ON or OFF.

Sending content other than text in chat rooms toggle
In addition to text messages, you can send things like photos, videos, voice messages, your location, and even money (via LINE Pay) in LINE chat rooms.

Note: Up to 50 photos/videos can be sent at once.

To send photos/videos:
1. Tap the Chats tab > the name of the chat room you want to send content in.
2. Tap the photo icon next to the text box.
3. Choose the photos/videos you want to send, then tap Send.
Note:
- Tap the icon at the bottom right of the screen to browse all of your photos/videos.
- The number of photos/videos you've selected appears at the bottom of the screen. Tapping this number lets you confirm and reorder them.

To send content other than photos/videos:
1. Tap the Chats tab.
2. Tap the name of the friend or group you want to send something to.
3. Tap "+" next to the text box.
4. Tap and send the content of your choice.

Taking/editing photos and videos in LINE toggle
With LINE, you can take photos and videos (using filters and effects, if you like) in chats or on Timeline. There are also lots of other convenient features for editing your content.

To take, edit, and send photos, videos, or GIFs: 
1. Tap the Chats tab > the name of the chat you want to send content in.
2. Tap the camera icon next to the text box.
3. Tap the round shutter button at the bottom center of the screen.
Note: You can switch between taking photos, videos, and GIFs by tapping or swiping on your camera screen.
4. Edit the content any way you like and tap the paper airplane icon to send it.

You can use the following tools on the camera screen.

Flash (the lightning bolt icon)
Turn your camera's flash ON or OFF.

Effects (the glitter icon)
Apply a variety of effects, including ones that recognize and move with your face.
Note: You can select from many more effects by tapping See more (the four-ringed icon).

Switch cameras (the rotating circle icon)
Switch between your rear-facing camera (for selfies) and forward-facing camera (for shots of the scene in front of you).

Checking all of the photos, videos, links, and files shared in a chat toggle
You can check all of the content that has been shared in a chat at once. Just tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen and select Photos & videos, Links, or Files.

From Photos & videos:
Tapping Select at the top right of the screen lets you choose photos and videos to share or delete. You can also save them to an album, your device, or Keep.

Swiping left or right on the photo or video you're viewing lets you see other photos or videos in the chat.

You can also jump to the message in which a photo or video was sent by tapping the date at the top of it.

From Links:
Tap a link to go to the relevant website. You can also tap "..." to the right of the link for the Copy link, Share, and Jump to message options.

From Files:
Tap "..." to the right of a file for the Share and Jump to message options.

You can check the content you sent to your Keep Memo chat on Keep.

Chat History

Issues with restoring chats from your device or SD card toggle
If you're having issues restoring your chat history, it may be due to one of the following reasons.

• The Import chat history option does not appear
From LINE version 9.1.0, there is no longer a feature to back up and import your chat history from inside a chat. If Import chat history does not appear, you won't be able to import chat history saved on an SD card or LINE Keep.

• You didn't download the backup file from Keep
If you saved the backup file to Keep on LINE, you'll need to download it from Keep and save it to your new device after transferring your account.

• The backup file wasn't saved in the right location
Files created by selecting Back up all data are saved on either an SD card or your device.

If you're unable to import (restore) your chats, you'll need to manually move the relevant file to the folder titled "LINE_backup" on the device you want to restore your chat history on.

Please use a file managing app or connect your device directly to your PC to access the backup files and move them.
Note:
- If this folder doesn't exist, please create one.
- You will not be able to restore your chats if you did not select Back up all data from the Back up chat history option.

If you're not sure how to create folders or move files, please contact your device manufacturer.

• Your device doesn't have sufficient memory or your system specs are too low
The app may freeze or crash if your device doesn't have enough memory or the specs are too low. Please delete any unnecessary data and restart your device before trying again.

1. Tap the search icon (magnifying glass) at the top right of the Chats screen.

Backing up and restoring your chat history with Google Drive toggle
You can back up and restore your chat history with Google Drive by following the steps below.
Important:
- Before backing up your chat history, make sure you have enough free space on your device and Google Drive.
- Be sure to try the following steps in an area with a strong network connection.
- The "Back up and restore chat history" option is only available on devices that can use Google Drive.

To back up your chat history:
1. From the Home/Friends or More tab, tap Settings > Chats.
2. Tap Back up and restore chat history.
3. Tap Back up to Google Drive.

Images and stickers are not backed up with your chat history, so we recommend saving any important images in Albums or Keep. For details about automatically backing up your chats, see this Help article.

To restore your chat history:
1. Tap the Home/Friends or More tab > Settings > Chats.
2. Tap Back up and restore chat history.
3. Tap Restore.
Note: With LINE version 9.2.0 and later, you can also restore your chat history when you transfer your account.

To search the messages in a chat: 
1. Tap the search icon at the top of the chat screen.
2. Enter what you want to search for in the Messages field.

You can search the messages from a specific date by tapping the calendar icon at the top right of the keyboard.

Deleting your chat history toggle
To delete the history for all your chats:
1. From the Friends or More tab, tap Settings > Chats.
2. Tap Delete chat history > Delete.

To delete a specific room’s chat history:
1. From the Chats tab, select a chat room > tap “V” at the top > Chat settings.
2. Tap Delete chat history > OK.

Important: Deleted messages cannot be restored.

You can save the messages in a chat as a text file by following the steps below.
Note: You cannot restore your chat history on LINE from a text file backup.

Letter Sealing

What is Letter Sealing? toggle
Letter Sealing is a feature that provides end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for chat messages. E2EE is a communication system designed so that messages saved on our servers are encrypted and cannot be read by anyone except the sender and receiver of the message.

Once the sender and receiver have both turned on Letter Sealing, they will be able to start sending messages with added security.

The following information will be encrypted:

• Text messages (not including messages sent through other services like Clova or YouTube)
• Location information
• 1-on-1 voice/video calls
Note: We plan to expand Letter Sealing’s functionality in the future.

If you use LINE for PC after turning on Letter Sealing, you'll be required to verify your identity the first time you send a message.

How to set Letter Sealing toggle
Letter Sealing will be turned ON for the initial setup.

If you are using the iOS version of LINE and Letter Sealing is turned ON, you will not be able to preview messages.

We recommend keeping Letter Sealing turned ON at all times in order to protect your messages. If however, you would like to change the settings, please refer to the following steps. 

Please be sure to follow the steps on the smartphone version of LINE. If you are accessing this Help article from your smartphone, tap here to move to the settings screen.

1. Tap MoreSettings > Privacy.
2. Turn OFF Letter Sealing.

The screen to verify my identity for Letter Sealing is not appearing toggle
When verifying your identity on the PC version of LINE, if the screen to enter the verification code for Letter Sealing does not appear on the smartphone version of LINE, please try the following:

1. Start the smartphone version of LINE.
2. Go to MoreSettings Privacy.
3. Turn Letter Sealing OFF, then turn it back ON again.

Afterwards, please refer to the following Help article and try verifying your identity once again.

About Letter Sealing key fingerprints toggle
Key fingerprints are unique encryption keys that Letter Sealing gives to each user so they can send messages to one another safely and securely.
Note: The actual keys are kept secret and will not appear in LINE chats.

If your key fingerprint matches your friend's, it means your chat is securely encrypted. To check whether your key fingerprints match, follow the steps below.
Note: Key fingerprint confirmation is optional.

1. Tap the menu icon at the top of a chat screen.
2. Tap This chat is protected with Letter Sealing at the bottom of the screen.
3. Compare the key fingerprints on your device and your friend's device.
Note: To compare key fingerprints with your friend, we recommend meeting face-to-face or using a form of communication you trust.

If "This chat is protected with Letter Sealing" doesn't appear, it means Letter Sealing is turned OFF. To turn Letter Sealing ON, follow the steps in this Help article.

The lock icon no longer appears at the top of a chat toggle
To check whether a chat is protected with Letter Sealing, tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen. If Letter Sealing is turned ON, you'll see "This chat is protected with Letter Sealing."
Note: You'll also see a lock icon at the beginning of the sentence.

If "This chat is protected with Letter Sealing" doesn't appear, see this Help article.

Groups and multi-person chats

Creating groups toggle
To create a group:
1. Tap the Home/Friends tab > Add friends (the silhouette icon) > Create group.
2. Select the friends you want to add as members, then tap Next.
3. Enter a group name, then tap Create.
Note:
-The friends you invite won't become group members until they select Join in their invitation.
- Group names can be up to 50 characters long.
- You can update to the latest version of LINE here.

Deleting groups or group members toggle
A group is deleted automatically when all its members have left. If there are still members in a group, follow the steps below to delete them first.

1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the group chat screen > Members.
2. Tap Edit at the top right of the screen.
3. Tap the Delete button next to the member you want to delete.
4. Tap OK.

After all of the other members have been deleted, you can delete the group by leaving it. For the steps to leave a group, see this Help article.

Inviting new members to groups toggle
To invite new members to a group: 
1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen > Invite.
2. Select the friends you want to invite and tap Invite.

Leaving groups toggle
Your chat messages, notes, albums, and photos will not be deleted if you leave a group. If there is anything you want to delete, make sure to do so before leaving the group.

When a group member deletes their account or leaves the group, a message appears saying "XXXX left the group."

To leave a group:
1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the group chat screen > Leave.
2. Tap OK.

If every member leaves, all of the content posted in the group will be deleted and cannot be restored.

What are multi-person chats? toggle
Multi-person chats are group-like chat rooms created by inviting friends to a 1-on-1 chat.

With normal groups, a user that was invited cannot participate in the group unless they select Join. However, with multi-person chat rooms, you can immediately start chatting with friends who were invited.

Multi-person chats easily allow you to communicate with a number of friends; however, features found in 1-on-1 and group chats (such as Notes and Albums) cannot be used.

If you'd like to share things like information and photos with friends in a multi-person chat room, we suggest making a group out of that multi-person chat.

Can I change the title of a multi-person chat? toggle
We are sorry to say that you cannot change the title of a multi-person chat.

If you create a group out of a multi-person chat room, you can set any title you’d like as long as it’s within 20 characters.

Creating a group from a multi-person chat toggle
To create a group from a multi-person chat: 
1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen > Other settings.
2. Tap Create group.
3. Select the friends you want to add and tap Next.
4. Enter a name, set a profile photo, and then tap Create.

Note: Messages from the multi-person chat will not be transferred to the group. To view your past messages, you'll still need to check the multi-person chat.

Difference between group chats and multi-person chats toggle
There are several differences between group chats and multi-person chats.

Group chats
Group chats let you set a group name and profile photo, as well as use convenient features like Albums and Notes.

However, the friends you invite need to tap the Join button to participate in the group.

To start a group chat:
1. Go to the Home/Friends or More tab.
2. From Groups, select the group name and tap Chat.
Note: For the steps to create a group, see here.

Multi-person chats
With multi-person chats, you can start chatting with multiple friends right after being invited.

Compared to groups, the features you can use are limited, but multi-person chats offer the advantage of letting you easily create chats with multiple friends.

To start a multi-person chat:
1. On the Chats tab, tap the speech bubble icon at the top right of the screen.
2. Tap Chat.
3. Choose the friends you want to chat with, then tap Create.

- If you don't enter an album name, the name will be the date the album was created by default.
- The same album name cannot be used more than once in the same chat.

Renaming albums toggle
To rename an album: 
1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen > Albums.
2. Tap "..." at the bottom right of the album you want to rename, or tap the album > the options icon at the top right of the screen.
3. Tap Rename album.
4. Enter an album name and tap Rename.

Note:
- You can enter up to 50 characters for an album name.
- The same album name cannot be used more than once in the same chat.

Saving photos from albums toggle
You can save specific photos or whole albums.

To save an album and its photos:
1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen > Albums.
2. Tap "..." at the bottom right of the album you want to save, or tap the album > the options icon at the top right of the screen.
3. Tap Download album.

To save specific photos:
1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen > Albums.
2. Select an album and tap the options icon at the top right of the screen > Select photos.
3. Select the photos you want to save and tap the download icon at the bottom right of the screen.
Note: If you want to select all of the photos, tap Select all.

Up to 100 albums can be created per chat.

Additionally, a maximum of 1,000 photos can be added to each album (up to 300 photos at once).
Note: You can select up to 20 photos at a time when saving photos in a chat to an album by tapping and holding them.

Creating notes toggle
To create a shared note in a chat:
1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen > Notes.
2. Tap "+" at the bottom right of the screen > Write.
3. Enter the content you want to share, then tap Post at the top right.

You can also attach stickers, photos, videos, web links, and locations to your notes.
Note:
- Up to 20 stickers, photos, or videos can be attached per note.
- Only one location can be attached per note.
- Sound/animated stickers cannot be attached along with ordinary stickers.
- Only one sound/animated sticker can be attached per note.

Sharing photos in an album toggle
You can share photos saved in albums with friends/groups, on Timeline, or with other apps.
Note: You can share up to 20 photos at a time.

To share photos:
1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen > Albums.
2. Select the album, and tap the options icon at the top right of the screen > Select photos.
3. Select the photos you want to share, then tap the share icon at the bottom of the screen.
4. Choose a friend/group and tap Share, or select Share on Timeline/Share in other app.

You can send a message at the same time if you're sharing with a friend or group. Just enter your message in the text box at the bottom of the screen, then tap Share.

The suggest feature lets you quickly choose emoji and stickers that match the text you enter.

To change the suggest feature settings:

2. Tap Display suggestions.
3. Turn the setting for Display suggestions ON or OFF.

Hiding and deleting chats

Blocking LINE GAME messages toggle
To block messages from LINE GAME apps, please follow the steps below.

1. Go to the More or "..." tab > Settings > Notifications > Authorized Apps.
2. Tap the game you wish to block messages from.
3. Turn off Receive Messages and/or Receive Notifications.

If you turn off Receive Messages, you will not receive messages but will continue to receive any gifts your friends send you.

If you turn off Receive Notifications, you will still receive LINE messages, but will not be notified when they arrive.

You can stop strangers from messaging you with the following steps.

1. On the More or Friends tab, tap Settings > Privacy.
2. Turn on the option for Filter messages.



With the Filter messages setting turned on, you will no longer receive messages from strangers, but you also will not receive messages from any acquaintances that are in your Friend recommendations.

Deleting chat messages toggle
You can delete messages in chats so they don't appear on your device anytime.
Important: Deleting messages by following the steps below will only delete them on your device, and they will still be visible to any other users in the chat room.

To delete a message:
1. Tap and hold the message you want to delete.
2. Tap Delete or Delete messages.
3. Tap Delete and confirm by tapping Delete once again.

You can unsend messages so that other users can no longer see them if 24 hours haven't passed since they were sent (regardless of whether they have been read or not). For more information about unsending messages, see this Help article.

Unsending messages toggle
You can unsend a message within 24 hours of sending it. This removes the message so that it can no longer be seen by anyone in the chat where it was sent, even after it has been read. To unsend a message, just tap and hold it, then select Unsend.

Important: 
- Even if you unsend a message, everyone in the chat will still be able to see a notification saying that you unsent it.
- Anything (e.g. text messages, photos) deleted in a chat room cannot be unsent.
- We will not be able to recover or unsend anything deleted from a chat room.

You can unsend text messages, stickers, photos, videos, voice messages, songs shared from LINE MUSIC, URLs, contact information, location information, and files.
Note: This feature cannot be used for call histories from LINE version 9.17.0 and later for Android.

Keep

About Keep toggle
Keep is a personal storage service that makes it easy for you to save content and share it with your friends. It lets you save chat messages (text), photos, videos, and voice messages.

To see your content saved in Keep, tap the Home/Friends tab > Keep to the right of your name.


You can easily manage the items you sent to your Keep Memo chat on Keep. For information about Keep Memo, see this Help article.

Storage period/capacity for Keep toggle
Most items can be saved in Keep for any length of time.

There is a storage period of 30 days only for files larger than 50MB. The number of days remaining will appear on these files every day in your item list in Keep.
Note: After a certain amount of time has passed, you will no longer be able to save items (e.g. photos, videos, or other files) that were sent in Keep Memo.

Keep has a storage capacity of 1 GB.

Item restrictions
• Photos and files: No restrictions
• Videos: Up to 5 minutes
• Text: Up to 10,000 characters

Adding content to Keep toggle

To add photos/videos:

Adding text:

About collections toggle
Collections let you organize the items you've saved in Keep any way you like.

To add an item to a collection, use one of the methods below.

From Keep:
1. Choose the item you want to add and tap "+".
2. Select a collection.

From a chat:
1. Tap and hold the item you want to save > Save in Keep.
2. Tap Keep.
3. Tap Collection to the right of the "Saved in Keep" message.

To save items in a new collection, tap "+" on the "Add to collection" screen and create a new collection.
Note:
- You can create up to 100 collections.
- There is no limit to the number of items that can be saved in each collection.
- Rest assured that deleting a collection will not delete the items in it.
- Your Favorites collection cannot be deleted or renamed.

You can pin items so they always appear at the top of a list in Keep.

To pin an item, use either of the following methods:

We respect your privacy above all else, and your sent/received messages and other information are treated with the highest level of security. LINE has established strict internal rules to ensure that your messages are protected.

 

Nothing you send or receive can be viewed by LINE or any third parties not participating in a chat.

Reporting chats toggle
You can report a user for sending spam or problematic messages from inside a chat.
Note: If you report someone, they won't be notified that you did so.

To report a chat: 
1. Tap the menu icon at the top of the chat screen > Other settings.
2. Tap Report.
3. Select your reason for reporting the chat, then tap Agree & send

We will investigate the matter based on your report. If we find that the user has violated our Terms and Conditions, we will take appropriate action.

Please understand that we cannot provide details regarding the results of our investigation or any actions taken. This is in order to protect the privacy of all of our users.

Sending chat messages in LINE with Google Assistant toggle
You can send 1-on-1 chat messages through Google Assistant without starting the LINE app. To do so, you need to allow the setting that adds your LINE friend information (names and profile photos) to your device's contacts.
Note: Turn ON Add LINE friends as contacts by agreeing to the pop-up that appears when you update the app or by following the steps under "Advance preparations" below.

Note: This feature can be used with the app and OS versions listed below.
- LINE version 10.4.0 or later
- Android OS version 6.0 or later

Advance preparations
On your Android device:
1. Tap Settings > Accounts > LINE.
2. Tap Sync account and turn ON Sync Contacts.

In the LINE app:
1. Tap the Home/Friends or More tab > Settings > Google Assistant.
2. Check the box next to Add LINE friends as contacts.
Note: Users in your device's contacts will not be added as your LINE friends.

To send chat messages in LINE with Google Assistant: 
1. Start Google Assistant and enter "Send LINE".
2. Choose a recipient, enter your message, and then select Confirm. You can then check your sent message in LINE.

- You can use either voice or keyboard input.
- English and Japanese are the only languages supported.
- The recipient's name will appear twice on the message pop-up: as it appears in your device's contacts on top, and as it's registered in LINE on the bottom.

Turning chat background animations on and off toggle
To turn background animations on or off:
1. Go to the Home/Friends or More tab and tap Settings.
2. Tap Chats and turn Background animations ON or OFF.

When you turn off background animations, seasonal event animations will no longer appear in chat rooms. This means the following animations will no longer appear:

Voice/video call issues

I can't make voice/video calls toggle
If you're experiencing issues with voice/video calls, it may be because:

• You're using an older version of LINE.
• You've blocked the friend you're calling, or they've blocked you.
• LINE's settings for Allow voice calls are turned OFF.
• You haven't added the person you're calling as a friend, or they haven't added you.
Note: Voice/video calls cannot be made if only one of you has added the other as a friend.
• Your device doesn't meet the recommended system requirements.
• The friend you're trying to call isn't using LINE.

If you've confirmed everything above but are still experiencing issues, try the troubleshooting techniques below:
• Update to the latest version of the LINE app here.
• Restart your device.

My friend and I can't hear each other in calls toggle
LINE voice and video calls are made over an internet connection, so make sure the connection you're using is stable.
 
If a call has no sound or is broken up, it may be because:
• You're connected to a Wi-Fi network being used by many people.
Note:
- We recommend using a 3G or 4G network.
- If you use a 3G or 4G network, you will be charged for the data used during calls.
• The signal is weak.
• You're updating apps or uploading/downloading files while on a call.
• Some router settings are affecting your connection.

If you've checked everything above but are still experiencing issues, try the following troubleshooting tips, and have your friend do the same.

• Update LINE to the latest version here.
• Restart your device.
• Turn your speakers off and on, and adjust the volume.

If you're still having issues after trying the tips above, you may be able to resolve the problem by changing your advanced call settings in LINE. 

To go to your advanced call settings:
1. Tap the Home/Friends tab > Settings.
2. Tap Calls > Advanced call setting.

From this screen, try changing each of the following settings:
• Uncheck Enable Full HD voice call (if this option is available).
• Tap Audio call mode > Normal mode.
• Uncheck Use OpenSL.

Full HD voice is LINE's high sound quality call service that utilizes full-band bandwidth.

If you're in a Full HD voice-compatible environment when you make a voice call, this feature will automatically turn on and "Full HD voice" will appear in green at the center of the call screen.
Note: Full HD voice cannot be switched on or off manually.

You can use Full HD voice if your device meets the system requirements below.
Note: If your device doesn't meet these requirements, the Full HD voice feature logo will not appear on the call screen.

Devices running both Android OS 8.0 or later and LINE version 8.15.0 or later (cannot be used on some devices).

You can enjoy making voice and video calls with your friends on LINE.

To make a call from your friend list:
1. Tap the friend you want to call in your friend list.

To make a call from a chat:
To call a friend from within a chat, you can use either of the methods below.

• At the top right of the chat, tap the phone icon > Voice call or Video call.
• Tap your friend's profile photo > Voice call or Video call.

If you're using a 3G or 4G network, packet communication charges may apply during a call. We recommend using a flat-rate data plan.

You can use effects and filters for video calls with the following system specifications.

Android
Devices running Android OS 4.4 or later (excluding some devices)

iOS
iPhone 6 or later
iPad Air or later
iPad Mini 4 or later

Even if you meet the requirements above, you may not be able to use effects and filters depending on the performance of your device. If these features can't be used on your device, the smiley face icon will not appear.

Also, make sure that the "Disable additional video call features" setting is turned off by following the steps below.

1. Tap the Home/Friends or More tab > Settings.
2. Tap Calls > Advanced call setting.
3. Unselect Disable additional video call features.

Are all voice/video calls free? toggle
Voice and video calls in LINE are free.

Calling or chatting with users on different mobile service carriers is also free. LINE will not charge you, even if you are calling a friend in a different country or using the service while you are traveling.

However, like all other apps, you will be charged by your mobile service carrier for the data that you use. Depending on your price plan, you may be charged each time you connect to LINE, so we recommend using a flat-rate data plan.
Note: With a flat-rate data plan, you will generally not be charged additional data fees when using a 3G, LTE, or Wi-Fi connection. For more details, check with your mobile service provider.

Sharing your screen in a video call toggle
To share your screen in a video call, follow the steps below.

In a 1-on-1 video call
1. Tap the options icon at the top right of the screen.
2. Tap Share screen.
3. Tap Start.

In a group video call
To share a website:
1. Exit the group video call screen and copy the URL you want to share.
2. Go back to the group video call screen.
3. Tap the website that appears at the bottom of the screen.
4. Tap Start.

To share your own screen:
1. Tap the Watch together icon at the bottom right of the screen.
2. Tap Screen sharing.
3. Tap Start.

Tap the pencil icon to write on the screen you're sharing.

To stop sharing your screen, tap the stop button at the bottom right. Returning to the video call screen will automatically end the screen sharing session.
Note: You cannot use the screen sharing feature if someone else is already sharing their screen or a video.

Can I stop a screen or video that's being shared in a video call? toggle
There is no way to stop a screen or video that someone else is sharing in a video call.

If you don't want to see a shared screen or video, hide it by tapping "V" at the top right of the screen.

Live videos

What is the Live feature? toggle
The Live feature lets you make and view live videos in group and multi-person chats. Up to 200 people can watch a live video stream.

To use the Live feature: 
1. Tap a group chat or multi-person chat.
2. Tap the call icon at the top of the screen > Live.

You can also share your smartphone’s screen with other users by tapping the share button at the bottom right of the screen after selecting Live. If you've already started a stream, you can share what's on your screen by making the Live window full screen and tapping “” > Share screen.

You can use the Live feature with the following system specifications:

• iOS: iPhone 5 or later, iPad 4 or later, iPad mini 2 or later, with LINE version 9.2.0 or later
• Android: Android OS 4.1 or later, with LINE version 9.2.0 or later (some devices may not be able to use the feature)

Notifications

Problems with Notifications

I got a notification but didn't receive any messages toggle
After you get a notification, it may take some time before you receive the actual message.

If you're still having trouble, please try the following:

• Go back to the list of chats and then reopen the chat room you're having issues with.
• Restart your device.
• Update the LINE app here.
• Check or disable any web limiting or filtering services you may have in place.
Note: Consult your mobile phone carrier for more information about web limiting and filtering services.

Issues with the appearance of the "N" mark and notification badges toggle
Depending on the strength of your network or Wi-Fi connection, the badge icon may be delayed or not appear at all.

Usually, the badge or "N" icon will stay on display until you start the app or check any new information that's been added.

If they're not showing up properly, please try the following:

• Delete any unnecessary apps and data on your device.
• Restart your device.
• Update the LINE app here.

Canceling your device's battery settings if you have notification issues toggle
If you're having issues with notifications, you may be able to resolve them by canceling your device's battery settings. To do so, follow the steps below.
Note: These steps and labels may differ depending on your Android OS version and device.

To turn OFF your battery saver schedule:
1. Go to your device's Settings, then search for and tap Battery saver.
2. Tap Set a schedule.
3. Select No schedule.

To remove background restrictions:
1. Go to your device's Settings, then search for and tap LINE.
2. Tap Background restriction.
3. Tap Remove.

To turn OFF battery optimization:
1. Go to your device's Settings, then search for and tap Battery optimization.
2. At the top of the screen, tap Not optimized, then select All.
3. Tap LINE > Don't optimize.

Notification Settings

LINE notification settings toggle
To set up LINE notifications, follow the steps below.
Note:
- These steps and labels may differ depending on your Android OS version and device.
- On some devices, the default sound may play instead of the LINE notification sound.

Android OS version 9.0 or later
LINE settings:
1. Tap the Home/Friends or More tab > Settings > Notifications.
2. Check the box next to "Notifications" at the top of the screen.
3. Tap Notification settings.
4. Turn Show notifications ON.
5. Tap Message notifications.
6. Turn Show notifications ON.
7. Turn each setting ON or OFF as needed.

Android OS versions 8.0 - earlier than 9.0
LINE settings:
1. Tap the Home/Friends or More tab > Settings > Notifications.
2. Check the box next to "Notifications" at the top of the screen.
3. Tap Notification settings.
4. Turn ON the setting at the top of the App notifications screen.
5. Tap Message notifications.
6. Turn ON the setting at the top of the Notification category screen.
7. Tap Importance and select Urgent.
8. Turn Sound, Vibrate, or any of the other settings ON or OFF as needed.

Android OS versions earlier than 8.0
You need to configure notifications on both your device and LINE.

Device settings:
1. On your device, tap Settings > Application Management or Apps.
2. Tap LINE in your list of apps.
3. Check the Notifications settings.
Note: Make sure that Block all is turned OFF.

LINE settings:
1. Tap the Home/Friends or More tab > Settings > Notifications.
2. Check the box next to "Notifications" at the top of the screen.
3. Turn Sound, Vibrate, or any of the other settings ON or OFF as needed.
Note: Tap here to go to LINE's Notifications settings on your smartphone.
